Windows 7 - Open File Security warning.  Happenes all the sudden
Hello, I seem to be having a problem with Windows 7 pro that happenes at random. All the sudden, shortcut icons on the desktop start to prompt "Open File - Security Warning". It happened to me before and the only I can fix it is by deleting my local profile and re-login again. everything would work fine for sometime and then all the sudden without a warning or any signs that something went wrong, shortcuts start to prompt for security warning. Publishers like Microsoft become Unknown. Items in the start menu work fine and in the task bar as well. only desktop. Also, this wont happen to every desktop icon. It'll happen to: - Internet explorer 9 shortcut - Active Directory users and computers shortcut - DHCP shortcut - shutdown.exe -i shortcut. Computer is Windows 7 Pro 64bit with 8GB ram in a domain enviornment. Is there a way to fix it without re-creating user profile. Thanks

Hi, I suggest turning off the security settings check feature. User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer In the right pane, enable turn off the security settings check feature. If the issue persists, try the following methods. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/124427-open-file-security-warning-allow-prevent-unblock-file.html Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. There was no unblock button in the shortcuts properties or the source exe files. The Security warning doesnt show up for every file. Only program shortcuts on the desktop, which doesnt lead me to believe its a setting in local or AD GP. Thanks

Hi, Since only the shortcuts on desktop have the issue, I suggest you recreate the shortcuts on desktop. You can refer to the following article. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Add-or-delete-desktop-icons On Desktop Icon Settings, please click Restore Default button. If the issue persists, please create a new user account and test in clean boot. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 Best Regards, Niki Please remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
